Meet Trishika Raj Singh, student of class IV, studying at Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, who recently clinched first place in the Rang-a-Sacred-Geometry Competition. Passionate about creativity, Trishika blended artistic inspiration from nature with mathematical precision, turning geometry into a vibrant work of art that reflects both her talent and dedication.
How did you feel upon winning first place in the Rang-a-Sacred-Geometry competition?
I felt overjoyed and proud when I heard that I had secured first place. The win came as a complete surprise, as I had entered the competition purely for my love of creativity. I never expected to win, which made the moment even more special. I couldn’t stop smiling, and knowing that my hard work was recognised made it an immensely proud and fulfilling experience.
What inspired your artwork, and how did you blend Geometry with creativity?
I regularly immerse myself in sources of inspiration that fuel my creativity and motivation. My artwork draws deeply from the beauty of the natural world. In this piece, I used hexagons and diamond shapes to form a vibrant, star-like design that radiates harmony. The colours — red, yellow, orange, and white were chosen to create a perfect blend of Geometry and art, reflecting how creativity can be both educational and enjoyable.
How did you prepare for the competition?
I used a scale and geometry tools to create precise shapes, starting with a light sketch and adding colours. Inspired by rangoli and mandala patterns, I aimed for balance and cleanliness. I believe in learning “through the arts” and “with the arts” for a joyful, engaging experience.
Did you face any challenges during the process?
Yes, I faced challenges in keeping the lines straight, maintaining symmetry, and ensuring the pattern was balanced. Colouring tiny sections neatly demanded patience and a steady hand, while precise measurement and spacing were crucial. Occasional smudges meant starting over, and managing time with focus was tough — but my determination kept me going.
Who supported or guided you in your preparation?
My parents and teachers guided me with valuable suggestions and feedback. My art teacher supported me with creative ideas, my Math teacher taught me proper use of geometric tools, and my class teacher encouraged me to give my best. My parents motivated me to keep practising, which helped refine my technique and enhance my artwork.
Has this experience changed the way you see math or art?
Yes! I once thought Math and art were separate, but this experience showed me how Geometry’s beauty can inspire art. Now I enjoy both subjects more and feel proud to blend them in my work.
What does this achievement mean to you?
It means a lot to me as it lets me showcase my creativity. I’m grateful to my teachers, school, and parents for their support, and this achievement will inspire my future projects while making them proud.
