Dance is a powerful form of expression that combines movement, rhythm, and emotion. It helps improve physical fitness, boosts confidence, enhances creativity, and builds mind-body coordination while offering a joyful way to connect with others. Meet two such students – Dishita Awasthi and Yoshita Singh of Class VI-A at Apeejay School, Saket.

In an impromptu interview, the two talk about how the school has supported their passion.

Dishita, who enjoys both dancing and crafting, stated that her strengths include being a quick learner and having a fascination for learning new things. “I have a positive approach to learning things and taking an interest in them. “The energetic expression of dance has always fascinated me. Over time, I felt that dance not only helps me stay active but also provides a creative outlet and a way to connect with others who share my passion,” she said.

Dance has taught her an important lesson – how to convey her emotions through body language. “This improved my mind and body coordination. The school has also supported my passion for dance through regular practices and tests. She shared that there are events, such as annual days and cultural programmes, where we showcase our talent; these events also boost her confidence. Additionally, she mentioned that her passion lies in kathak.

“When I was much younger, dance was just my hobby. I started as a beginner, but then I continued it with deep interest. I opted for dance in special interest clubs and started participating in competitions and programmes,” she stated.

Yoshita, describes herself as a curious and hard-working girl who loves dancing. “My love for dance began when I saw a beautiful performance during my school’s annual function. The graceful movements and music made me feel so happy that I told my parents I wanted to learn. They supported me, and I’ve now been learning dance for over five years. It brings me confidence, energy, and joy,” she said and added that dance has taught her to never give up.

“In the beginning, I found many steps challenging, but my teacher encouraged me to keep practising. Eventually, I got better. Dance has also taught me patience, discipline, and belief in myself. My school supports my passion in many ways. We have a dance club where we practice with guidance, and we’re even allowed to rehearse during lunch breaks. We perform during our annual function, festivals like Independence Day and Christmas, and sometimes in Inter-school competitions,” she stated.

While she has learnt both Kathak and Western dance, she loves Kathak for its storytelling and elegance. “Western dance is fast, exciting, and full of energy. I enjoy styles like hip-hop and freestyle. I love both forms because they help me express myself in different and beautiful ways,” she said in conclusion.
