Three high-performing students from Apeejay School, Noida, share their experiences, effective study strategies, and tips for overcoming academic challenges, offering valuable insights and inspiration for others striving for excellence in their studies. Meet Manpreet Kaur, Aakash Kumar Singh, and Onish Srivastava of Class VII-B from the academic year 2024-25.
Manpreet, who scored 98.8% (excluding third language), shared her study strategy, saying, “I used to practise important questions from a variety of resources like worksheets, resource books, previous years’ papers, and sample papers. This approach helped me identify my weak areas and the topics that needed more revision. I was always careful with how I wrote my answers, ensuring that I highlighted important points and explained each concept properly.”
For her, Math was the most difficult subject because it involved learning formulas and solving problems that required logical thinking. To overcome this challenge, she practiced using different textbooks.
“This made me familiar with the kinds of questions that could appear in the exam. My teachers also advised me to revise everything given in the NCERT textbooks thoroughly,” she said.
Aakash, who scored 98.6%, said that he made a study schedule for all subjects and followed it diligently. “I organised my study sessions in such a way that I could complete my academic goals while still leaving time for other activities. Like many students, I found Mathematics to be the most challenging subject. However, I managed to overcome this barrier by practising questions from additional books,” he said and added that these resources helped him build confidence and improve his problem-solving skills.
“My teachers played a crucial role as well; they were always available to clear my doubts and explained the topics clearly, in a way that made them easier to understand,” he stated.
Onish, who scored 98.2% excluding the third language, shared that to get this percentage, he would constantly read the entire syllabus and write it down, as it helped him to remember the content.
“I didn’t follow a fixed hourly study schedule. Instead, I set daily goals, like finishing a particular subject or chapter, which helped keep me focused. And Social Science was difficult to understand. However, our teacher helped us a lot. She used to write notes on the board, which explained the topics in a pictorial format, making it easier for us to understand,” he said and added that he did feel a bit stressed during the exams
“To ease the stress, I would read fiction books. JK Rowling is my favourite author,” he said in conclusion
