Written by: Abhilasha Munjal: Meet Dr Raj Abhay Singh, an esteemed alumnus of Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, whose son, Rudra, is now following in his footsteps and studying at the same school.

Dr Singh pursued the PCB stream during his school years, before going on to complete his graduation from Gyan Sagar Dental College, Jalandhar. Today, as a successful dentist, he credits the values and lessons he learnt at school for shaping his professional journey.

The strong foundation provided by his teachers has been a constant guiding force, and he remains deeply grateful for their significant role in his growth and success.

Tell us about yourself.

My journey has been nothing short of remarkable. The support and guidance I received from the teachers at my school played a crucial role in shaping my path.

They were knowledgeable and incredibly approachable, which made me feel at ease and encouraged me to push my limits. Their efforts helped foster an environment where learning was both challenging and enjoyable. 

Some fond memories from your school days.

School memories are unique and timeless. To ensure that my child experiences the same cherished memories, I’ve decided to pass on my legacy by enrolling him in the same school where I grew up.

While others may transfer their degrees or properties, I’m gifting my child a legacy of rich memories and valuable education that will shape his future just as it did mine. It’s my way of ensuring that the lessons, experiences, and bonds I formed at school continue to live on through him.

How supportive were the mentors?

The teachers I had, have been a true source of inspiration, guiding me with patience and wisdom every step of the way. Their unwavering support and dedication shaped my journey, laying the foundation for my success.

It is because of their invaluable teachings that I stand here today as a doctor, forever grateful for their impact on my life.

How has your journey been from an alumnus of this school to a parent whose child is studying here?

This school is truly exceptional, not only for its top-notch infrastructure but also for its dedicated and knowledgeable teachers. While many people focus on flaunting modern trends, I believe that the traditional way of learning remains the most effective.

Through these methods, students truly learn the hard way and develop resilience. Stepping beyond your comfort zone is key to growth and success.  

Do you think school still holds the legacies from your time till now?

Some of my teachers are still part of the school, and I truly admire the many years they have devoted to shaping young minds. Their dedication is inspiring, and I have full confidence that they will continue to teach my child with the same passion and excellence.

Should schools ensure a balance between academics and extracurricular activities?

Absolutely. This school was once primarily known for its strong academic focus, but it’s truly rewarding to see how it has evolved. Today, the school equally emphasises both extracurricular and scholastic activities, providing a well-rounded experience for students.

How do you spend time with your child?

As a doctor with my clinic, I make it a priority to manage my time effectively, ensuring that I dedicate ample time to my child. Despite the demands of my profession, I remain committed to being present in their life and supporting their growth.

What advice would you give your child to make the most of his school years?

Be humble and respect your teachers!
