‘Continuous self-evaluation helped me present myself with clarity and confidence’ 

Graceleen Kaur of Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication shares her aspirations to build career in PR

A PGDM student in Management and Mass Communication from Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, Graceleen Kaur holds a keen interest in Public Relations and Corporate Communication. Her passion for the same led her to bag a placement offer from Astrum. “This is extremely gratifying as it validates the skills and perspective I have developed during my academic journey. It is a proud milestone to begin my career with a firm renowned for its expertise in reputation and crisis management,” Graceeleen emphasised. Read edited excerpts as she explains her preparation strategy. 

How did you prepare for the placement process?

My preparation was strategic and focused on strengthening my fundamentals in Public Relations, corporate communication, and media dynamics. I consistently followed current affairs, analysed real-world PR case studies, and worked on refining my articulation and interview skills. Additionally, mock interviews and continuous self-evaluation helped me present myself with clarity, confidence, and industry awareness. 

How did Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication and faculty members help you to prepare for the placement rounds?

Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication played a significant role in making me industry-ready. The PGDM curriculum effectively integrates management principles with communication and Public Relations practices. The faculty provided constant guidance, practical exposure, and valuable feedback through presentations, live projects, and discussions, which enhanced my strategic thinking and professional communication skills.

What kind of skills do you think are important to crack the placement with ease?
A strong foundation in communication and Public Relations is essential, along with clarity of thought and confidence. Skills such as strategic thinking, adaptability, and awareness of industry trends play a crucial role. Moreover, the ability to communicate ideas effectively, handle pressure, and present oneself professionally makes a significant difference during the placement process.

What are your future aspirations?
I aspire to build a career in Public Relations and corporate communication, with a focus on reputation and crisis management. My goal is to contribute to impactful communication strategies, manage brand perception effectively, and grow into a strategic communication professional. I aim to continuously learn, adapt, and establish myself as a credible voice in the PR industry.
