When someone spends 14 vibrant years at the same school, it’s no surprise that it becomes a second home. For Maitri Maheshwari, an alumna of Apeejay School, Noida (Batch of 2023-24), this journey was more than just academics — it was about growing from a shy nursery kid into a confident, multi-talented young adult. Today, she’s studying Economics Honours at the prestigious Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), but her heart still beats for those Teacher’s Day performances and farewell dances. In this candid and delightful chat, Maitri opens up about her love for Maths, playing the drums, and how Apeejay Noida helped her find her voice — and her dream college. Read edited excerpts:
You spent all your school years at Apeejay, from Nursery to Class 12! What impact did that have on your growth and confidence?
Absolutely! Apeejay was more than a school—it was a second home. I started as an incredibly shy child, but over the years, thanks to the nurturing environment and the push to participate in activities, I grew into the confident person I am today. It also helped me discover my love for Economics, especially in the senior years where I had brilliant teachers guiding me.
What were your academic interests back in school? Was Economics always on your radar?
My heart has always belonged to Maths—I’ve loved it since Class 9! That love was what drew me to Economics. I did well in Science in Class 10 too (I even scored a centum!), but the subject didn’t excite me. So despite suggestions from many—especially with a family full of doctors and engineers—I chose Commerce with Maths, and I’m so glad I followed my instincts.
Did you enjoy extracurriculars as much as academics? Any special talents?
Oh yes, I was very active in the cultural scene. I played the drums and performed on occasions like Teacher’s Day and Farewell. I also loved dancing—Western, mostly—and those performances were so much fun! They brought a great balance to my school life and gave me the confidence to perform on stage.

SRCC is a dream college for many. When did it first come into the picture for you?
I actually hadn’t heard of SRCC until one of my Apeejay teachers mentioned it in passing when I was in Class 10. That simple mention sparked my curiosity—I looked it up, did my research, and realised it was the place for Economics. That moment of discovery shaped my academic direction. I owe a lot to my teachers for planting that seed.
What was the teacher-student bond like at Apeejay Noida?
So warm and enriching! I often went to school just to clear doubts, and every teacher was approachable and genuinely invested in our progress. They weren’t just academically supportive—they also guided us emotionally and helped us make big decisions. Their insights, feedback, and encouragement really made a difference. I loved how friendly yet informed they were.
Any special school memory that always makes you smile?
So many! But if I had to pick, I’d say the performances during Farewell and Teacher’s Day stand out. Especially in Class 11 when we organised the Farewell for our seniors—it was a mix of creativity, laughter, and madness. Teacher’s Day too was pure fun—no classes, just bonding and celebration. And I can’t forget those days filled with games and team spirit. I truly cherish every single memory.
