To mark Children’s Day, Third Eye Hospital and the Jalandhar Cataract and Refractive Club organised a unique event titled Screen Time vs Green Time. The drawing competition, hosted last week (on Friday), invited over 400 students from 16 city schools to express their thoughts on balancing digital exposure with time in nature.

The event turned into a vibrant celebration of colours and creativity. Through art, children explored how too much screen time can affect their eyes and overall well-being. The competition encouraged young participants to think about healthier habits while nurturing their imagination.

Dr Jaswant Singh Thind, Chairman and Managing Director of Third Eye Hospital, addressed the gathering and spoke about the importance of eye care among children. He highlighted how awareness and small lifestyle changes can protect vision in this digital era.

Inspiring insights and special guests

The Chief Guest, Sandeep Rishi, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Jalandhar, appreciated the young artists for their awareness-driven participation. Dr Saurabh Mittal, Consultant Pediatric Eye Surgeon at Third Eye Hospital, also shared practical tips on how children can reduce screen time and take better care of their eyes.

Students from Apeejay School, Model Town, made a remarkable mark at the event. Inaaya Gaurav Bhagat won the first prize in category 2 (Classes VI–X), while Mishti Saini, in category 1 (Classes I–V), secured the top position in the primary group. Other Apeejay participants, including Poorvi, Asees Hazooria, Parth Gupta, Tanishka Khinder, Avni Oberoi, and Mabondeep Singh, received consolation prizes for their creative contributions.

A message that lasts

The competition not only celebrated Children’s Day but also spread a vital message; balancing screen time with green time is essential for healthy eyes and a happy mind. The event reminded everyone that awareness, when nurtured through art, can leave a lasting impact.
