Since childhood she used to stand in front of the mirror holding a hair brush thinking it was a mic. Her passion for mass communication comes from her family, where print media flows in their blood. The legacy has followed from her grandfather to her father in the form of a printing press. She wanted to continue the legacy. But she was always drawn towards advertisements and that’s how she landed up at Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC) for a PG Diploma in Advertising and Marketing Communication. She has done BA in Sociology from Janki Devi Memorial, Delhi University. At present, she is working as a Client Servicing Executive at Grasshoppers Pvt Ltd. Meet Riya Kumar.
Read excerpts from the interview:
How did Apeejay help you in your professional journey?
AIMC has helped me shape a strong understanding of marketing. My specialisation is in Client Servicing. I feel I am able to articulate different aspects that are associated with a brand because of my learning at the institute.
What do you enjoy at your job?
The most important part of my job is to fulfil all the requirements of my brands. I have been associated with UNICEF, YuWaah (a joint association by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and UNICEF). My focus of work is mainline print which I feel is a major part of the advertising industry.
What is it that got you interested in this role?
I believe I hold a command over my communication skills. I have persuasive skills that help me market a brand well and connect with the target audience. I wanted to channelise these traits that’s why I ended up in this role. My skills have always helped me to climb in the field of client servicing.
The trends in client servicing sector.
The industry of advertising works on the wheels of great ideas and super great conceptualisation of those ideas. The biggest role of a client servicing executive is to deliver the perfect marketing gimmick to their clients. As a Client Servicing Executive, I have to stay updated with all the marketing trends so that I can somehow project or associate our brands with the trends so that the brand stays always relevant and relatable to its target audience.

Tips you would like to give your juniors.
AIMC is the place that makes you industry ready. I will suggest that you must enjoy every aspect of this beautiful institute. The college offers such a nurturing environment that will help you grow. So, learn, laugh and make beautiful memories at AIMC.
What are your best memories from AIMC days?
Whenever I think of my college days, I get a big smile on my face because those days are filled with so many memories. The learning, the knowledge, the laughter that AIMC has brought to me will always hold a special place in my heart. I believe whatever I have achieved to date is only because of my mentors Professor Sajal Mukherjee and Professor Pijush Dutta. I am so grateful that I have been part of the AIMC family.
