Akriti Pratap Singh is a Computer Science Engineering graduate with a strong interest in technology and innovation. She is an alumna of School of Engineering & Technology at Apeejay Stya University, Gurugram, who in addition to her passion for tech also enjoys sketching and problem-solving cases in her free time, which reflects her creative and analytical sides. “I chose engineering because I was always curious about how things work and wanted to build solutions that can make a real impact,” she said.
In this interview she talks about her journey with Apeejay Stya University and how her mentors always encouraged her to learn new things. Read edited excerpts:
Why did you choose Apeejay Stya University? What have all your learnings been?
Choosing Apeejay Stya University was a stroke of luck, but it turned out to be one of the best decisions. The university provided a supportive environment, a helpful faculty, and access to great learning resources. I gained hands-on experience in programming, machine learning, and software development, along with important soft skills like teamwork, communication, and critical thinking.
Have you received your placement offer? Where? How did you prepare for the same?
Yes, I have received a placement offer and am currently working as a Software Developer at Flight Centre Travel Group, Australia. I prepared through continuous practice of coding problems, working on real-world projects, and revising key concepts from my core CSE subjects. The university’s training sessions and mock interviews also helped boost my confidence.

How do the teachers encourage you to learn new things?
The faculty at Apeejay are incredibly supportive and always encourage curiosity. They motivate students to explore beyond the syllabus through workshops, projects, seminars, and continuous mentorship. Their approach helped me stay motivated and eager to learn emerging technologies.
Any special project you have worked on in Apeejay? What did you learn?
Yes, I worked on several projects, including a Sentiment Analysis Chatbot to identify fake messages using NLP techniques, and a Cancer Prediction Model using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). These projects deepened my understanding of AI and machine learning and taught me how to apply theory to solve real-world problems.

What has been your favourite part about engineering education?
My favourite part of engineering has been the problem-solving assessments and the opportunity to apply technical knowledge in practical scenarios. Tackling complex challenges and finding innovative solutions is what makes engineering exciting for me.
What are your future plans?
My goal is to continue growing in the field of software development and become a technology leader in the industry. I plan to explore advanced topics in AI/ML and contribute to building impactful tech solutions.
