Understanding the importance of the handloom in the Indian independence struggle, Apeejay School, Tanda Road students give a hearty presentation
Close your eyes and think of one symbol that united India during the 90 years of its freedom struggle. This symbol cuts across all religious, caste, class and geographical divisions. It was even almost unanimously accepted by all political ideologies back then.
It was the charkha-the Indian handloom!
Unanimously accepted as a sign of freedom for the British, the handloom challenged the dependence of Manchester spun cloth and also wove a new Indian identity, one that came from every household, no matter man or woman, aged or child.
On this Independence Day, it is imperative that one goes back to this symbol and understand its colossal importance in the nation’s freedom. Students of Apeejay School, Tanda Road in Jalandhar, have always been keen to know about the independence struggle and its historical facets. Hence, it is no surprise that class 5 students of the school celebrated National Handloom Day with much curiosity and joy.
Brimming with enthusiasm, the young students gave a presentation that shed light on the significance of the day. With an insightful introduction, the accompanying PowerPoint Presentation showcased the historical importance of handlooms, their present status along with ways to support weavers.
Additionally, students exhibited their creative skills through poster-making activities that highlighted the beauty and importance of handloom products. The event aimed to raise awareness and appreciation for the rich tradition of handloom weaving while emphasizing the need to uplift the weaver community.
