Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri, hosted a vibrant celebration of Dussehra recently with the students of class IX leading the festivities. The event was an insightful blend of cultural performances and moral lessons, highlighting the triumph of good over evil — a core message of the festival.
The programme commenced with the Thought of the Day, which underscored the values of truth and righteousness. A subsequent speech delved into the significance of Dussehra in Indian culture, explaining how the festival inspires individuals to confront and defeat the evils within society and themselves. The interactive quiz session that followed further engaged the audience, testing their knowledge of the Ramayana and Dussehra’s importance.
Principal Dr Vineet Vasishtha, during the Dussehra celebrations, emphasised the significance of moral values, stating, “The inculcation of ethical principles is imperative in shaping character. We must draw inspiration from Lord Ram’s virtues of righteousness, humility, and respect, especially towards women, while also learning from the downfall of Ravana, who succumbed to pride and arrogance. The timeless lesson that good inevitably triumphs over evil serves as a powerful reminder that moral integrity will always prevail, while malice and wrongdoing are bound to fall. Let us commit to these values and strive for a society rooted in respect and virtue.”

A standout moment of the celebration was the nukkad natak (street play) themed ‘Respect Your Elders’. This impactful performance, delivered by the students, focused on the importance of valuing and honouring the wisdom of elders in society. The powerful message resonated with the audience and earned enthusiastic applause, leaving a lasting impression.
The cultural section of the program featured lively group dances and a melodious rendition of the Ram Stuti by the school choir, adding a devotional spirit to the celebrations.
Mrs Poonam Sharma, English Primary teacher at Apeejay School Charkhi Dadri, remarked during the Dussehra celebrations, “Dussehra always serves as a powerful reminder that discipline and patience are essential in achieving the seemingly impossible. Just as Lord Ram defeated Ravan through meticulous planning, we too must adopt a systematic approach in our endeavours. In today’s world, where moral values are in decline, this festival teaches us timeless virtues such as respect, love, hard work, resilience, and perseverance. It is a moment to reflect on these principles and apply them to our lives, ensuring we uphold the integrity that leads to true success.”

The highlight of the event was the symbolic burning of Ravan’s effigy on the school grounds. As the effigy went up in flames, the audience was reminded of Dussehra’s eternal lesson — the victory of good over evil. The spectacle was a moment of reflection, and the students and staff watched in awe as the flames symbolised the destruction of negativity and the reinforcement of righteousness.
The day concluded on a note of joy and enlightenment. All participants were left with a deeper understanding of the values of truth, respect, and righteousness, making the Dussehra celebration not just an event but a day of significant moral learning.
