Celebrating Linguistic Brilliance: A week of language and creativity

Language Week is a celebration that emphasises the importance of multilingualism and literacy, providing students with opportunities to explore and enhance their language skills in a fun and engaging ways. Such activities help foster creativity, self-expression, and a deeper understanding of different cultures and languages. They also encourage students to think critically and communicate effectively while enjoying the learning process. The activities organised during Language Week improve linguistic abilities and promote empathy and social awareness, making them a valuable part of school education.

As part of the Language Week celebrations, Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park organised vibrant and engaging English and Hindi Days on October 15-16, 2024, allowing students to showcase their linguistic and creative talents.

The English Day celebration saw students participating in a variety of activities designed to enhance their language skills. Class III students dressed up as their favourite book characters, sharing short presentations on them, while class IV and class V students presented stories with a twist, sparking their imagination and encouraging creative thinking.

Class VI students took part in a lively poetry recitation session, using visual aids and dramatic enactments to bring their poems to life, while class VII students showcased their creativity by designing comic strips based on textbook chapters, displaying a deep understanding of the narratives.

‘The school buzzed with excitement as every English class came alive with the enthusiasm and creativity of our students. Activities such as designing vibrant book jackets, crafting engaging brochures, creative writing and poetry recitations provided a wonderful platform for students to showcase their linguistic talent.

“These activities not only helped them strengthen their communication skills but also fostered a deeper appreciation for the richness and beauty of the English language,” Mrs Ritu Sharma, Head of Department, English, said.

Older students also participated in dynamic activities. Class VIII performed a dramatic enactment of The Boy Who Broke the Bank,” while class IX students created striking book jackets for Wings of Fire and other books. Class X students crafted brochures highlighting India’s cultural and historical landmarks, and class XI students designed posters on Taking Care of the Elderly, promoting empathy and social awareness. Class XII students participated in vocabulary enrichment exercises to boost their language proficiency. Each activity allowed students to express themselves creatively, improving their linguistic skills while having fun.

On October 16, Hindi Day, was filled with enthusiasm and excitement as students participated in various activities designed to enhance their understanding of the language. Classes III, IV, and V engaged in a Literary Quiz, testing their knowledge and love for Hindi literature.

Class VI students participated in a quiz based on riddles (Paheliyan Pucho), while class VII played a spirited game of ‘dumb charades’ focused on guessing idioms and proverbs. Class VIII students dived into Varg Paheli, a crossword puzzle in Hindi, while classes IX and X showcased their acting skills by enacting scenes from stories, with the audience guessing the story.

Both days were marked by enthusiastic participation, fostering a love for language and literature while providing an enjoyable platform for learning.
