Janmashtami, the celebration of Lord Krishna’s birth, is observed in schools to instil cultural values and traditions in students. This festival teaches the importance of devotion, love, and righteousness, reflecting Krishna’s life lessons. By celebrating Janmashtami, schools aim to provide students with an understanding of Indian heritage. These celebrations create a joyful atmosphere, fostering unity and participation among students while deepening their connection to cultural and religious practices.
Recently, Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, Jalandhar, celebrated Janmashtami with a special class assembly organised under the guidance Mr AK Sharma, the Principal of the school. The event, conducted by the students of class I, commenced with a soulful bhajan dedicated to Lord Krishna – Achyutam Keshavam Krishna Damodaram – setting a devotional tone for the celebration. The assembly included inspiring thoughts, quotations, and a poem, enriching the spiritual ambiance of the occasion.

The highlight of the event was the vibrant solo and group dance performances by the students, which captivated the audience and received widespread appreciation. The primary section students, dressed as little Krishna, Radha, and gopis, added a charming touch to the festivities, while the pre-primary students, adorably dressed as Kaanhas and gopis, contributed to the colourful and joyous atmosphere. A video depicting the birth of Lord Krishna was shown, engaging the students and enhancing their understanding of the significance of the day.
The Principal along with the Vice-principal, Ms Aarti Shorey Bhat, teachers, and students, sought blessings from the idol of Lord Krishna placed in a cradle, symbolising reverence and devotion.

In his address, Mr Sharma spoke about Lord Krishna’s life journey, emphasising the importance of the values and teachings associated with Krishna. He highlighted that Janmashtami serves as a symbol of unity and faith, bringing people together. He encouraged students to follow the path of truth and perform their duties honestly, as guided by Lord Krishna.
