The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced an updated and expanded list of Skill Modules 2025 for students of Classes VI, VII, and VIII. These short, introductory courses aim to empower young learners with essential vocational and life skills, aligning with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) to promote experiential and real-world learning from an early age.

Launched initially in the academic session 2020–21, these modules are designed to provide a hands-on approach to learning and career readiness. The 2025 curriculum sees a significant addition of trending and relevant subjects like Artificial Intelligence, Coding, Data Science, Financial Literacy, Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality, and Digital Citizenship.

Each module comes with detailed student handbooks, teacher resources, and project booklets to ensure engaging and practical classroom experiences. For instance, the Artificial Intelligence module (Code 901) introduces the basics of AI, while Financial Literacy (Code 904) teaches students to manage money wisely through real-life scenarios. Similarly, Coding (Code 910) enhances computational thinking and logic-building, and Design Thinking & Innovation (Code 903) nurtures creativity and problem-solving.

Other modules focus on India’s rich heritage and practical life skills, including Blue Pottery, Kashmiri Embroidery, Block Printing, Baking, Food Preservation, Khadi, Mask Making, and even Photography. Health-focused topics like the Life Cycle of Medicine & Vaccine, and First Aid Essentials are also included to develop a holistic understanding of wellness and safety.

Importantly, CBSE now allows skill subjects to be considered under the ‘Best of Five’ scheme for Classes IX and X. If students opt for a sixth optional skill subject, their marks in this module can be used for calculating the overall percentage, offering flexibility and reducing academic pressure.

This inclusive and forward-thinking move by CBSE encourages students to explore diverse interests, become future-ready, and gain practical skills alongside their academic pursuits. Schools across India are encouraged to adopt and implement these modules to build a strong foundation for skill-based education.
