CBSE: No countersignature required on transfer certificates

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a fresh reminder to all affiliated schools, emphasising that requests for countersignature of transfer certificates (TCs) should not be sent to the Board’s headquarters or regional offices.
The directive follows repeated instances of schools seeking countersignatures despite the discontinuation of this practice. The Board clarified that countersignature of transfer certificates from one CBSE-affiliated school to another is no longer required, and such requests only lead to unnecessary administrative delays.
According to the circular, CBSE has already implemented digitised systems to simplify and expedite school-related documentation processes. However, several institutions continue to disregard the updated guidelines, causing inconvenience to students, parents, and school authorities alike. The Board noted that such non-compliance undermines efforts to ensure efficiency and transparency in student record management.
The CBSE official stated that schools must independently issue and verify transfer certificates using the prescribed digital format and ensure all details are authentic and verifiable. The Board reminded institutions that every CBSE-affiliated school has access to online tools and resources that allow for smooth transfer and verification of student data without requiring physical countersignatures.
This renewed reminder aims to reinforce adherence to the Board’s digitisation initiatives and reduce paperwork in line with the government’s push for e-governance and transparency in educational administration.
The Board has further advised school principals to disseminate the directive among administrative and exam staff to prevent future requests for countersignature. Schools have also been urged to update their internal procedures in accordance with CBSE’s digital framework to ensure hassle-free student transfers across the network of affiliated institutions.
Through this move, CBSE seeks to streamline documentation processes, promote uniformity among schools, and enhance the efficiency of record verification. The reminder serves as a final call for all schools to comply with the updated guidelines and contribute to a more transparent and technology-driven education system.
