CBSE makes Clean & Green Rating mandatory for all schools under SHVR 2025-26

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made it mandatory for all affiliated schools across India to participate in the Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR) 2025–26. The deadline for schools to complete this clean and green rating is 30 September 2025.

What Is SHVR 2025–26?

  • Expanded scope: SHVR is an upgraded, more inclusive version of the earlier Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar (SVP), launched by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. It applies to all schools with a UDISE code, including government, private, residential, tribal, minority, KVS, NVS, and all CBSE-affiliated institutions.

Goal: To promote clean, sustainable, and inclusive school environments throughout India.

How Schools Are Assessed

Schools must complete a self-assessment covering a comprehensive 60-indicator framework, focusing on six key areas including water, toilets, handwashing with soap, operation and maintenance, behaviour change & capacity building, and Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) activities.

  1. Additionally, other reports emphasise sustainability aspects such as water and energy conservation, waste management, use of sustainable materials, and fostering environmental awareness among students.

How Schools Can Participate

To make participation easy, CBSE has launched:

  • A dedicated web portal
  • A mobile app (available for Android and iOS)

Schools can register through either platform by 30 September 2025. QR codes and login/signup options are available on the official SHVR website at shvr.education.gov.in.

Why It Matters

  • Promotes health & sustainability: Encourages schools to upgrade sanitation, manage resources wisely, and build eco-conscious habits.
  • Encourages accountability: Making participation mandatory reinforces responsibility and proactive improvement.
  • Drives positive change: With clear targets and recognition, schools are motivated to embed green practices into everyday operations and culture.
