The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has opened the online application process for its Single Girl Child Merit Scholarship schemes, an initiative that promotes girl education and rewards academic excellence. The scheme is meant for meritorious single girl students who cleared the CBSE Class 10 examination and are now pursuing studies in Classes 11 and 12.

Categories of Application

This year, applications are invited under two heads:

  • Single Girl Child Scholarship 2025: For students who passed Class 10 in 2025 and are now enrolled in Class 11 at CBSE-affiliated schools.
  • Scholarship Renewal 2024: For students who received the award last year and are applying for continuation.

The deadline to apply is October 23, 2025. Students and parents can access detailed guidelines and the application form through the official CBSE website.

Purpose of the Scheme

The scholarship has been introduced to encourage parents to educate their daughters and to support talented single girl students financially. It recognises girls who have achieved at least 70% marks in Class 10 and continue their education in senior secondary classes.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicant must be the only daughter of her parents.
  • Must have scored 70% or more in the CBSE Class 10 examination.
  • Should be studying in Class 11 or 12 in a CBSE-affiliated school.
  • Tuition fees must not exceed ₹2,500 per month in Class 10 and ₹3,000 per month in Classes 11 and 12 (up to ₹6,000 for NRI students).
  • Annual family income should not exceed ₹8 lakh.
  • Regular attendance and good conduct are mandatory.

Benefits and Renewal

The scholarship offers ₹1,000 per month for a maximum of two years. Renewal is granted if the student secures at least 70% marks in Class 11 and is promoted to Class 12.

Application Process

Applications must be submitted online and verified by the respective school. Incomplete or unverified applications will not be entertained. Parents are also required to upload a self-declaration of income on notarised stamp paper, along with the student’s verified fee slip.

This initiative continues CBSE’s efforts to empower single girl children by easing financial constraints and motivating them to excel academically.
