The Class X CBSE Chemistry paper is designed to assess conceptual clarity, application, and analytical skills. Chemistry is a part of the Science paper, carrying 25 marks out of 80 (theory), with the remaining 20 marks allotted for internal assessment. The question paper includes multiple-choice questions (1 mark each), very short answers (2 marks), short answers (3 marks), and long answers (5 marks). The marking scheme awards stepwise marks for correct reasoning, balanced chemical equations, diagrams, and numerical accuracy. Clear presentation and proper units are essential for full marks.
Ms Prerna Bhushan, TGT Chemistry from Apeejay School, Pitampura, emphasises that to score in Chemistry, it is important to have concept clarity, which can be accomplished by thoroughly understanding the chapters of NCERT Practice competency-based questions with key words of each chapter.
The educator further shares a few important tips to revise and ace the subject well.
For Chapter- Carbon and its Compounds, focus on conversions, electron dot structure of carbon compounds. And while writing the IUPAC name first letter has to be capitalised
For Chapter- Metals and non-metals, ensure that you know the definitions and examples of important terms like mineral, ore, gangue, metallurgy, corrosion and alloys. It is also important tofocus on metallurgical steps and learn through flow charts.Studentsmust learn the reactions like roasting, calculation and thermite reaction. Also, focus on the concept of ionic bonding
In the last hours before the exam, do not read the textbook; instead:
– Review the notes on reactions, IUPAC and isomerism
– Memorise diagrams of electrolytic refining and the cleansing action of soap.
– Recall reactions involved in the preparation of salts
It is also important to de-stress during exam time:
– Do not go through new topics
– Do not discuss every single detail of the topics right before going to the exam hall
– Have a good sleep and stay hydrated
