The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has retained its rationalised curriculum for Class IX English Language and Literature for the academic session 2025-26. In line with the National Education Policy (NEP), the syllabus continues to focus on reducing academic pressure while strengthening students’ core language and comprehension skills.

As per the updated notification, no major changes have been made from last year’s syllabus. Several chapters and poems from NCERT textbooks, Beehive and Moments, remain deleted to streamline learning. These removals aim to help students concentrate on key linguistic competencies, including reading, writing, grammar, and communication.

From Beehive, the following chapters and poems stand deleted: Packing (Chapter 7), The Duck and the Kangaroo (Poem, Chapter 7), The Bond of Love (Chapter 9), and The Snake Trying (Poem, Chapter 9). Similarly, in the supplementary reader Moments, two short stories have been removed — The Accidental Tourist and Weathering the Storm in Ersama.

Additionally, in the Words and Expressions-I workbook, Unit 7 (Pages 96–110) and Unit 9 (Pages 127–139) have been completely dropped.

The CBSE’s decision to continue the rationalised syllabus reflects its ongoing commitment to making the curriculum more relevant, balanced, and student-friendly. This structured approach reduces redundant content and aligns classroom learning with the goals of holistic education envisioned in the NEP.

Students are advised to thoroughly review the deleted portions and prepare strictly as per the revised syllabus to ensure focused exam preparation and optimal performance.
