The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has scheduled the Class XII exams for 2025 to be conducted from February 15, 2025, to April 4, 2025, in the traditional pen-and-paper, format. The exams will open with the subject of Entrepreneurship and conclude with Psychology. The Board has also released the 2025 syllabus, outlining the critical chapters and topics that students must focus on.

Understanding the exam pattern is crucial for success, as it provides insights into the marking scheme, types of questions, and allotted time for each paper, shared Ms Neeta Singh, PGT Chemistry at Apeejay School, Kharghar.

Format of the question paper

·         Remembering and understanding-based questions carry 28 marks.

·         Application-based questions carry 21 marks

·         Analysing, evaluating and creating based questions carry 21 marks

“Once you know the whole syllabus, you can start framing a daily study routine or plan. In addition to studying, you should also set aside time for revision and mock tests in your daily study routine,” the educator stated and shared a few study tips.

·         Do not forget to take small breaks for relaxation.

·         Go through the NCERT Textbooks. Board question papers for Class XII are based on NCERT textbooks which are formulated strictly according to the latest curriculum released by CBSE

·         Attend revision classes as they will help you to understand the material better and provide you with valuable study tips.

·         Make a key of important Chemical reactions and formulae. Revise the contents of the key every day.

·         Make use of mnemonic devices and flashcards.

·         Chemistry is a subject that requires a lot of practice.  Watching videos and reviewing notes is good, but you’ll be tested on your ability to solve the problems.

·         Make sure you have plenty of writing practice for numerical and important questions. Practice previous year’s papers.

·         Lack of proper sleep will also leave you feeling exhausted, which will interfere with your ability to concentrate and retain information.

·         Condition your body to be active for the duration and timing of the Board exam.

·         A positive attitude can go a long way in helping you to succeed on your final exam.

·         Stretching and exercising will also help you to relax, as well as stay fit.

·         When you are nervous always talk to your parents or teachers for help.

·         During the exam keep at least 10 minutes for revision of your answers. Highlight keywords and phrases to catch the attention of the evaluator.

5 mistakes to avoid

1.       Not reading the question carefully.

2.       Making calculation errors in numerical. Not writing the correct unit.

3.       Not stating chemical law correctly. (A chemical law stated by someone cannot be restructured, it should be reiterated like how it was stated)

4.       While writing the equation of a chemical reaction, students tend to:

·         Not balancing the chemical reaction

·         Writing the chemical equation when asked for the observations of a reaction and vice-versa.

·         Forgetting to draw all bonds and lone pairs on an atom

5.       Not writing the consequence and cause of a phenomenon when asked to reason it.
