Effective July 8, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has affiliated with the School Games Federation of India (SGFI). Starting from the 2024-25 academic year, winners of the CBSE National Games will now compete in the SGFI National School Games, as announced in an official notification.
Additionally, CBSE has issued a warning regarding an Agra-based organisation, the ‘CBSE Board School Games Welfare Society’ (CBSE-WSO), which is using the CBSE name to organise sports events. The Board clarified that it has no association with CBSE-WSO. Despite this, many CBSE schools have inadvertently participated in events organised by this group. CBSE emphasised that it is not connected with CBSE-WSO or any sports competitions they conduct.
In its notification, CBSE instructed all affiliated schools not to engage with CBSE-WSO or participate in their events. Schools are advised to verify any communications received from such organisations through the official CBSE website. The Board has stressed that schools must not partake in any sports events organised by CBSE-WSO, warning that non-compliance will result in action against the school.
CBSE’s collaboration with SGFI marks a significant step in promoting sports at the national level, providing students with broader opportunities and recognition. However, the board’s firm stance against CBSE-WSO is a cautionary measure to ensure schools and students are not misled by unauthorised organisations.
Schools are urged to adhere to these guidelines to avoid any repercussions and to support the Board’s efforts in maintaining the integrity and proper organisation of school sports activities.
