From learning her first lessons in Nursery to preparing for her Class XII board examinations, Sukhmani Deol’s journey at Apeejay School, Rama Mandi is one of continuity, care and character-building. A Commerce student who has grown up within the same school corridors for over a decade, Sukhmani reflects on how Apeejay School has shaped her not just academically, but as a confident, kind and grounded individual ready to step into the next phase of life.
Read edited excerpts:

You have been part of Apeejay School since Nursery. What are some of your earliest school memories?
Some of my happiest memories are from the early years, school trips, class parties and decorating our classrooms during festivals like Diwali and New Year. We would bring snacks from home, sit together and celebrate with our classmates and teachers. Those moments, especially with our class teachers who were so affectionate, still make me smile.
How has Apeejay School contributed to your overall growth as a person?
Beyond academics, the school has taught me kindness, confidence and empathy. My teachers and friends have always supported me through ups and downs. The environment here encourages us to be bold, creative and confident, which I feel is extremely important for every student’s future.
As a Class XII student now, how do you see yourself compared to your younger self?
I think the biggest change is understanding responsibility. Earlier, I didn’t realise how important studies and marks really are. Now, I am more focused, motivated and driven to do well—not just for myself, but also to make my parents proud.
Are there any achievements or moments at school that you truly cherish?
I have been actively involved in co-curricular activities and have received recognition during award ceremonies, which means a lot to me. Teachers often tell me that I am kind and cheerful, and being known for my smile is something I cherish deeply.

You’ve been active in sports as well. Could you tell us more?
Yes, I enjoy playing basketball and badminton. I am also the Sports Prefect of my House, which has taught me leadership and teamwork. I plan to continue sports in college by opting for Physical Education as a side subject.
What will you miss the most as you prepare to leave school?
I will miss my friends and teachers the most. Recently, we lost a classmate, which brought us all even closer. That bond and emotional support is something I will always associate with my school life at Apeejay.
How would you like future students to remember your batch?
I think we will be remembered as the “cool batch” – friendly, interactive and close to our juniors. We shared a strong bond, and I believe that’s what made our batch special.
