Recently, Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, hosted an engaging seminar for Class X students on women’s legal rights. The resource person for the session was Advocate Madhu Rachhna, a distinguished legal professional who has been working tirelessly to promote gender justice and awareness in society.

The seminar began with an eye-opening discussion on women’s rights in four countries — Syria, India, Germany, and Saudi Arabia. Students explored how legal frameworks around marriage, employment opportunities, access to education, property ownership, and protection from violence vary across different societies. Through this comparative lens, they discovered that while some nations have made significant progress, others continue to face cultural and political barriers that limit women’s empowerment.

The role of legal awareness

Advocate Rachhna emphasised that rights are meaningful only when individuals know how to exercise them. She explained that education and legal literacy are key tools for empowerment. By sharing real-world examples, she showed how laws designed to protect women can only succeed when backed by awareness and collective will. The message was clear: change begins with informed citizens who stand up for equality.

Active participation from students

The seminar did not end as a one-way lecture. Students engaged actively, raising thoughtful and challenging questions during the Q&A session. They asked about the remedies available for cases of workplace discrimination, domestic violence, and denial of equal opportunities. Their curiosity revealed not only their interest in the subject but also their willingness to become active participants in conversations about fairness and justice.

For the young learners, the event was more than an academic exercise. It was a moment of reflection on their role in shaping a society that upholds dignity and respect for all. Advocate Rachhna’s insights encouraged them to become advocates of change in their communities. The seminar left the students inspired to champion equality and to recognise that awareness today can pave the way for empowerment forever.
