The School of Legal Studies at Apeejay Stya University (ASU), Gurugram, recently organised an academic visit to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), New Delhi, offering students a remarkable opportunity to enhance their legal learning beyond the classroom.

The visit proved to be an enriching experience as students witnessed first-hand the working of one of India’s most significant institutions dedicated to protecting and promoting human rights. Through detailed interactions and orientation sessions, students developed a deeper understanding of the role NHRC plays in ensuring justice, safeguarding constitutional rights, and addressing grievances related to human rights violations.

The experience also enabled them to connect theoretical knowledge gained during their studies with practical insights into the functioning of legal and quasi-judicial bodies. It further broadened their perspective on contemporary human rights challenges, institutional mechanisms available for redressal, and the importance of legal professionals in upholding the dignity and rights of citizens.

Sharing their experiences, students mentioned how this visit turned out to be a very informative process.

“It was an amazing venture for most especially, we the law students. Thank you so much for making this training a successful one. I look forward as a law student for more such opportunities to legally have interactions with other legal professionals and institutions across the country,” expressed 2nd year LL.B. student George Taylor.

Vishakha Shakya , pursuing BBA LLB, mentioned, “The sessions were very informative and gave me a clear understanding of how the NHRC works to protect and promote human rights in our country. The session not only gave me knowledge about the legal and procedural aspects of NHRC but also made me realise the human side of their work—compassion, responsibility, and commitment towards society. It motivated me to think more seriously about human rights and how each of us can contribute in our own way. Overall, the visit was very impactful and inspiring. It gave me both awareness and a sense of responsibility towards protecting human rights in everyday life.”

Third-year BA-LLB student Komal Bhardwaj extended her acknowledgement to the faculty members for taking them to the educational visit at National Human Right Commission. “This visit was an amazing experience for us where we learned so much about Human Rights and their importance.Truly Grateful for this opportunity.”

The faculty accompanying the students were Dr. Neha and Mr. Adnan who meticulously planned and coordinated the visit. Their efforts ensured that students not only gained academic exposure but also imbibed values of empathy, justice, and responsibility, which are vital for budding legal professionals.

The visit to NHRC reinforced Apeejay Stya University’s commitment to providing experiential learning opportunities that prepare students for real-world challenges in the legal domain. It was an inspiring and eye-opening experience that will undoubtedly strengthen the students’ resolve to contribute positively to society as ethical and socially responsible lawyers.
