The School of Design & Visual Arts (SDVA) at Apeejay Stya University (ASU) recently organised an industrial visit to Shahi Exports, India’s largest apparel manufacturer and exporter. A total of 20 fashion design students from 1st, 2nd and 3rd year went for this visit under the guidance of Dr. Saurabh Kumar Sharma, Asst. Dean, SDVA and Ms. Nidhi Suhag, Assistant Professor, FD-SDVA.

On arrival at the factory, students were briefed about the company by Ms. Promila Rawat, HR Head of Shahi Exports, Faridabad.  She also interacted with the students and highlighted the required skills set needed to be part of the industry. She also explained about the various CSR activities of the company and the future expansion plans.

Students also interacted with one of the designers, Ms. Priyanka Grover, who takes care of ZARA orders. The designer gave budding designers a deep insight about the workflow of the industry, highlighting important roles and responsibilities of a designer, day to day tasks and challenges, importance of fashion forecasting and so on.

Subsequently, students were also taken to the sampling, assembling, cutting, finishing, packaging, fabric development lab as well as the R&D department for the practical know-how.

The visit concluded with a quick Q & A session that helped students understand the working of an export house in a better way.
