With the objective of helping Indian craftsmen regain their prominence in the economy, Dastkar, a not-for-profit NGO, provides a platform to showcase traditional crafts and design , especially those designed by women and village-based people.
Therefore, to help budding designers understand and explore the traditional Indian crafts, Apeejay Institute of Design (AID) recently organised a field visit to the Dastkar – Craft Exhibition, Kisan Haat, New Delhi. Faculties and second semester students of Foundation Course visited this mesmerising exhibition.
During the visit, the students explored the sketches and crafts made by different designers. After exploring the exhibition, they drew the best artwork on a piece of paper and captured the essence of the haat.
This activity helped students to broaden their horizon of observation and understand the impact of creative visualisation.
The outdoor visit was a great experience for the budding designers as they got the opportunity to witness the innovative products based on traditional folk art and cultural heritage of the country.
Last month, these students along with their faculties also went for an outdoor study tour to Purana Qilla and encountered the beauty of the monuments while capturing the same in their sketches.
