Ar. Mukul Goyal recently conducted an engaging guest lecture at the Apeejay Institute of Technology – School of Architecture and Planning (AIT-SAP), Greater Noida focusing on the critical role of site planning in landscape design. The session provided students with practical insights into the architectural planning process, emphasising how careful site analysis can significantly enhance design outcomes.
Ar. Mukul outlined several essential aspects of site planning, such as identifying start and end points within a landscape, while ensuring a smooth flow and connectivity between key activity zones. He stressed, “It is significant to understand the element of efficient space planning,” while recommending that travel time between areas of interest be limited to just five minutes to maximise functionality. By using real-world case studies, he illustrated how these principles can simplify the design process while improving user experience.
A significant portion of the lecture was dedicated to understanding the impact of climatology on landscape architecture. Ar. Mukul explained, “Climate considerations and natural elements should be thoughtfully integrated into designs to create spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also sustainable and resilient.”
He further encouraged students to consider the natural surroundings as an extension of their design concepts, ensuring that the structures harmonize with the landscape.
One of the highlights of the session was Ar. Mukul’s interaction with students. He provided constructive feedback on a student thesis project, which greatly enriched the learning experience. By addressing various questions, he offered deeper insights into practical site planning challenges and solutions. This hands-on approach allowed students to grasp a step-by-step methodology for approaching site planning, reinforcing their understanding of how to create seamless and balanced designs.
The lecture proved to be an invaluable experience for the students, broadening their perspective on how to blend architectural structures with natural elements to achieve cohesive landscape designs. Ar. Mukul’s guidance on aligning theoretical concepts with real-world applications has equipped the students with tools to excel in their future projects.
