Brain Bee Competition: A student from this school secured 2nd position

Competitions provide a rich array of opportunities for students to hone their research skills and gain practical experience, fostering a profound understanding of the subject matter. Among the myriad of competitions, neuroscience competitions stand out, especially for students interested in exploring potential career paths.

These competitions serve as catalysts for innovation, inspiring participants to think creatively and propose novel solutions to overcome challenges. Apeejay School, Nerul recently took part in the Brain Bee quiz competition, an unparalleled program conducted at regional, national, and international levels by neurospecialists such as neurosurgeons, neurologists, or neuroscientists.

The Brain Bee attracts participants from over 40 countries, competing at the international level every year. The regional-level competition for Apeejay School, Nerul took place on January 7, 2024, at Saifee Hospital, Mumbai.

Focused on neuroscience, the quiz covers various aspects of the brain, including specialized terminologies, intricate brain functions, spinal cord operations, and chemical coordination, including the role of hormones.

Despite facing a two-month advance commitment for registration, Apeejay School, Nerul managed to secure a spot among the last nine schools out of the 15 that participated. Janhavi Patil, a determined class XI student from the Science stream, represented the school and secured an impressive 2nd position.

Monika Gupta, a biology teacher of higher secondary classes at Apeejay School, commended Janhavi’s dedication and hard work, stating, “Janhavi deserves special recognition for her commitment to learning the concepts of the competition alongside her regular studies.”


Opportunities favor those who actively embrace them, emphasised Ms Gupta, highlighting the potentially life-changing impact of being prepared to welcome such opportunities. The event featured two major rounds: A written MCQ test and an oral quiz, resembling a rapid-fire competition. Questions focused on the brain’s different parts, functioning, and related topics.

Reflecting on the experience, Janhavi expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “The event was super amazing and very informative. Guest speakers provided greater insights into the brain and its functioning. If given the opportunity, I would love to participate in the nationals. A special thanks to Monika ma’am for providing me with this opportunity and supporting me throughout.”

In conclusion, the Brain Bee competition at the regional level was a resounding success for Apeejay School, Nerul. The school aspires to participate in national-level competitions, continuing to provide students with enriching opportunities in the field of neuroscience.
