Many people suffer from bone and joint related problems. The conditions like osteoporosis , fractures, spondylitis , etc. impact a person’s quality of life. Bone health is integral to an individual’s daily living. Hence, to raise awareness and educate people about the preventative and curative measures to treat these musculoskeletal disorders National Bone and Joint Day is celebrated every year on 4 August. On this day, the idea is to also remind individuals to prioritise safety, whether at work or while performing any physical activity, to prevent bone related injuries.

In line with the above-mentioned thought, the Department of Physiotherapy of Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, observed National Bone and Joint Day in collaboration with Punjab Orthopaedic Association under the aegis of Indian Orthopaedic Association.
Dr R. R. Sagar, President of Punjab Orthopaedic Association and Head of Orthopaedic Department at Srimann Hospital, addressed the gathering and presented an informational talk on health awareness. He also presented a demonstration on ‘Basic Life Support’ which is essential to save lives in case of emergencies.
In his talk , he explained what basic life support is and how it can save the lives of many people especially during emergency situations like road accidents. “Basic life support is an emergency technique which is performed to support a patient’s circulation and breathing through the use of cardiopulmonary resuscitation until advanced life support arrives,” he said.
He also enlightened the audience on bones and joint care and how it is important to keep them healthy for good quality of life.

Further, Dr Navleen Kaur, Director NAT Labs & Pathologist at Srimann Hospital, enlightened the students about anemia. She highlighted how the rate of anemia is high in India, especially among females. Further encouraging, Dr Navleen Kaur requested students to adopt a healthy diet to avoid any problems. In addition, Dr Vijay Pal Singh Sandhu, President, Jalandhar Orthopedic Society, delivered a session on how people can keep their bones strong throughout.
Lastly, Dr Neerja Dhingra, Principal at ACFA, appreciated the efforts of Dr Neeraj Katyal, Dr Nitika Gupta, Dr Osheen, Dr Gargi and Ms Prabhneet for successfully organising the programme and motivated the students to practically implement the lessons learnt from the expert speakers and become good and responsible citizens and help the people in need.
