She is a student of Class X at Apeejay School, Noida. She likes to read, write and occasionally paint Indian forms of art like Madhubani. She has published two books and been featured in several online magazines for her art. Her passion for debates, MUNs and global politics has shaped her analytical thinking, creativity, and love for language, qualities that naturally align with an editorial role.
In a candid interview, Khwaish Nagpal, Editor (German) with the school magazine, how knowing the language has improved her overall skills.
What sparked your interest in taking on the Editor German role?
It was not until Class VIII that I started viewing German as more than just a subject. I started to develop a genuine interest. My deep-rooted love for English and literature made it easier to absorb the new language. So when I discovered an open position for one of my favourite subjects, I did not hesitate to seize the opportunity.
How do you think this language resonates with today’s students?
Today’s students are curious with respect to exploring and discovering the global differences. Several students are opting to learn foreign languages. German, as a language, has become synonymous with understanding a new culture and spreading the wings of curiosity. Language is a new perspective.
How has knowing the language improved your overall skills?
It has transformed my academic performance in the subject while sparking genuine curiosity beyond the classroom. German motivates me to pursue advanced mastery even after school, explore other languages, and has shaped my personality by strengthening confidence, nurturing creativity, and continually expanding my knowledge.
What challenges do you face in editing, and how do you overcome them?
As a foreign language, German was challenging to write, edit, and present accurately, from grammar to advanced texts. Consistent daily practice, even briefly, made a real difference. With constant guidance from our teacher, these challenges taught me patience and precision, skills vital for any editor.
What kind of support do you get from the teachers and the school?
The school has consistently supported me in every leadership role I have undertaken. Being entrusted with the position of German editor allowed me to deepen my understanding of the language and share that passion with my peers. Over nearly five years of learning German, I have been guided by a mentor who supported me through every high and low, always encouraging me to aim higher.
