Pronit Mukherjee, an impeccable student of Class X at Apeejay School, Noida, finds true joy in communication, especially when discussing topics related to automobiles. His interactions become more meaningful when the listener shares the same interest and understanding. Pronit believes that effective communication is not just about speaking, but also about sharing personal experiences and the lessons learned from one’s mistakes. This approach helps him reflect, grow, and connect better with others. Owing to his confident expression, clarity of thought, and engaging conversational skills, Pronit was felicitated with the Best Interactor award, recognising his ability to communicate with impact and empathy.
What skills help you become a good listener?
The skills that help me be a good listener include maintaining eye contact with the person who is speaking. I make a conscious effort to avoid interrupting. I also ask relevant questions that show I have listened carefully and understood the topic being discussed.
Share an experience where you helped someone through communication.
A few days ago, I was talking to my younger cousin, who was about to participate in an MUN (Model United Nations) conference but felt nervous and confused about how to perform her best. I advised her to stay calm and research her assigned country thoroughly to deepen her understanding of global trade. To my surprise, my suggestions inspired her greatly, and she felt confident that she would be a capable delegate.
What does teamwork mean to you?
Teamwork means working with people who contribute equally and support one another. It involves sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas, and suggesting constructive ways to improve the quality of our work. When everyone participates actively, teamwork becomes more effective and rewarding.
Who is your inspiration?
My brother is a Marine Engineer, and I often talk to him about his work on the ship. I was surprised to learn that he takes care of various parts of the ship and sometimes even goes underwater to inspect the motor. From this, I understood that we should feel happy and proud of our work, even when it is challenging.
How has the school helped improve your communication skills?
The Interact Club has played an important role in improving my speaking skills. Through various activities, the club encourages us to express ourselves confidently. Discussions on topics like body shaming allowed me to share my feelings, while the blood donation camp helped me interact with people I had not known earlier.
How would you inspire others to be more confident communicators?
I would suggest that everyone should be a good listener, be open-minded, and be themselves. They should respect the feelings of others, discuss different topics, and learn new things. They should also be ready to unlearn whatever knowledge they have that is wrong.
