For Class 11 Science student Arshavi Verma, basketball is more than just a game — it’s a journey of self-discipline, teamwork, and personal growth. In this conversation, she shares how consistency, communication, and team spirit guide her both in sports and studies.
Read edited excerpts:
What inspired you to take up basketball and how has your journey evolved over time?
Initially, I started playing basketball just for fun. But as I spent more time practicing and learning, it turned into a true passion. The game taught me the value of discipline, teamwork, and focus — lessons that go beyond the court.

What position do you play, and what are the key qualities needed for it?
I usually play as a forward. This position demands strong dribbling, quick decision-making, accurate passing, teamwork, and situational awareness. It’s about reading the game and supporting the team effectively.
Has playing basketball helped you in your personal development?
Yes, definitely! The sport has helped me become more confident and taught me how to stay calm and handle pressure during tough situations.
How do you balance academics and sports?
Balancing both can be challenging, but I plan my days carefully. I set fixed times for study and practice, and use my free periods to revise. Time management is the key.
What’s the most memorable moment in your basketball journey so far?
My proudest moment was when I helped my team make a comeback after being behind. It showed me the importance of never giving up and believing in the team till the very end.
What’s the best advice you’ve received from your coach?
My coach once told me, “Luck doesn’t always work, but consistency does.” That advice has stayed with me and reminds me to keep practicing regularly.
What do you love most about being part of your school’s basketball team?
The best part is the unity and support we share. We motivate each other to grow — not just as players, but as individuals.
