She loves playing table tennis the most. Along with sports, she also focuses on my studies. At present, in Class VII, Aadya Virmani from Apeejay School, Sector 15 Faridabad, made her school proud by securing third position in the 2nd District Ranking Table Tennis Tournament organised by Grand Columbus International School in collaboration with The Table Tennis Association, Faridabad
In an impromptu interview, she shared how she stayed calm and followed her game plan even when she felt her opponent was playing a better hand.
When you felt the opponent was stronger, did you change your strategy?
Yes, I changed my strategy according to the opponent’s game and played accordingly. While I did not find anything very tough in the match, sometimes I felt that my opponent was playing better than me, but I stayed calm and followed my game plan.
Does playing at the district and state levels require different preparation?
There is a difference. At the district level, we need to practice regularly. But at the state level, we have to practice for an extra two to four hours every day. I come for practice every day, both in the morning and evening. I practice for around five to six hours daily.
With such long practice hours, how do you manage your schoolwork?
Whenever I get time, I complete my schoolwork. I try to manage everything properly so that neither my studies nor my game gets affected.

How supportive are your teachers when you miss classes due to practice or tournaments?
My teachers understand my situation and support me. They help me manage my studies whenever I miss classes because of matches or competitions.
How long have you been playing table tennis, and who supports you the most at home?

I have been playing table tennis for the past three years. My parents support me the most. They motivate me a lot and go with me to every match. Whether I win or lose, my mother and father always encourage me.
What do you enjoy the most about playing table tennis?
I love playing the backhand. I enjoy changing my strategy according to the opponent. It makes the game interesting and helps me stay alert during matches.
What has table tennis taught you apart from the game itself?
Table tennis has taught me discipline. Because of discipline, I can manage both my studies and my sport properly. The sport has also taught me how to stay calm and focused.
What advice would you give to children who want to play table tennis but feel scared?
I would tell them not to be afraid and to play the game. The more they play, the more their confidence and patience will increase.
