Meet Shreyas, a cheerful six-year-old from Class II, student of Apeejay School, Sector-15, Faridabad. His love for swimming is as deep as the pool he trains in. With 20 medals, three trophies, and a Best Swimmer Award already to his name, he balances studies and sports with confidence. His journey reflects discipline, determination, and the joyful spirit of a young champion in the making.

In a candid interview, he shares what he enjoys the most in swimming, among other things.

When did you start swimming?

I started swimming last year when I joined the school, and since then I have practised regularly with my coaches. At first, I learned the basics, like floating and kicking, and slowly built my confidence in the water every day.

Where did you learn to swim?

I began learning swimming in the school pool under trained instructors who guided us patiently. Practising with friends makes it fun and safe. The environment encourages discipline, teamwork, and healthy competition, helping me improve my strokes and speed every day.

What do you enjoy most about swimming?

What I enjoy most about swimming is the races, because they make my heart beat fast and fill me with excitement. Freestyle is my favourite stroke, as I can move quickly and feel free like a fish in water happily.

How often do you practice?

I practice every day, both in the morning and again in the evening, which helps me stay strong and focused. Even during colder months, it takes a backseat; regular practice improves my stamina, timing, and confidence more.

What is your favourite competition moment?

My favourite competition moments are when I swim freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke events, and hear everyone cheering. Touching the wall first gives me a wonderful feeling of achievement. It teaches me to stay calm, brave, and determined, always smiling proudly.

Who supports you the most at home?

At home, my mother supports me the most. She wakes me up early, prepares healthy meals, and encourages me before every practice and competition. My family’s constant motivation gives me strength and reminds me to never give up, happily always.

How did you feel when you won the prize?

When I won the prize, I felt very happy and proud of myself. It shows that my hard work is paying off. Winning also motivates me to train harder, set bigger goals, and try to perform even better, always more.

How do you manage studies and swimming? h

I balance my studies and swimming by following a simple routine. I attend practice in the morning and again from three to four in the evening, and I study later calmly, finishing homework before sleeping every night peacefully, always happy.

What other hobbies and habits do you have?

Apart from swimming, I enjoy drawing and art activities, and I also love dancing during school functions. Swimming has taught me discipline, better timing, and fitness. I eat eggs and healthy food to stay strong and maintain good stamina daily.
