She is, at present, studying in Class VII at Apeejay School, Kharghar. A passionate young artist, this 13-year-old loves painting and expressing her thoughts through colours. She started drawing as soon as she learnt how to hold a pencil. “I would draw anything and everything I saw around me, from simple objects to little scenes from my imagination. I loved bringing my drawings to life with different shades and combinations,” Shiza Abbasi shared in a candid interview, among other things.

What do you love drawing the most?

I love painting and creating realistic objects the most. I enjoy observing small details and trying to recreate them as accurately as possible. It makes me happy when my artwork looks real and full of life.

Who inspires you to improve your art?

My biggest inspiration comes from my parents at home. They noticed my interest and enrolled me in drawing classes; they have always supported and encouraged me to follow my passion, which motivates me to keep improving.

How does the school support your interest?

My school supports my interest in art in many wonderful ways. Every year, the school organises drawing competitions for all age groups, and the winners are awarded. This motivates me to participate and keep improving my skills. The teachers send me to Inter-school competitions whenever opportunities come. Their encouragement and belief in me inspire me to work harder and become a better artist each day.

How do you feel when you are painting?

When I am painting, I feel calm, happy, and completely focused. It feels like I enter my own little world where I can freely express my thoughts and emotions through colours. Painting helps me relax and forget about everything around me. It gives me confidence and joy, especially when I see my ideas slowly turning into beautiful artwork on the canvas.

Have you taken part in any art competitions at school?

Yes, I have taken part in many art competitions from nursery school till now. I have always loved participating because it gives me a chance to show my creativity and learn new things. Over the years, I have won many certificates, which makes me feel proud and motivated. Each competition teaches me something new and helps me improve my skills. I enjoy the experience of challenging myself and growing as an artist every time I participate.

If you could paint a mural at school, what would it show?

I would paint students from different backgrounds working together, surrounded by bright colours, books, nature, and symbols of art and learning. I would include elements like a big tree representing growth, an open book symbolising knowledge, and colourful splashes to show imagination. I would want the mural to inspire students to believe in themselves and follow their dreams.
