Being part of a school choir nurtures teamwork, boosts confidence, and enhances musical skills, offering students a creative outlet to express themselves and shine on stage together. Meet two such students — Madhvi Shandilya and Jasmine Kaur Bhatia of Class VIII-B at Apeejay School, Saket.
In a candid interview, they share their musical journey.
Madhvi, who finds joy in music, Mathematics, and writing stories, said, “I’m passionate about playing the flute! I love singing along with my best friend. My teachers and friends call me a ‘happy-go-lucky’ girl because I believe in smiling in all situations.”

Music was her little secret until her teachers discovered her playing the flute for friends during breaks! They encouraged her. Being part of the choir has been an incredible experience — she gets to learn, perform, and grow alongside talented classmates. Apeejay School has been her wind beneath the wings!
And while she has experienced stage fright, she overcame it early thanks to her father’s Vedic chant training. “Performing in temples with his support built my confidence. At Apeejay School, every small performance was celebrated — from flute solos for chief guests to impromptu recitals. Encouragement from teachers and even silent nods from our Principal made me feel seen,” she shared and added that performing in front of the audience is the most thrilling feeling, like riding a musical rollercoaster!
“At first, my heart races as I take the stage, but the moment I play my first note, everything changes. The audience’s energy — whether it’s 50 classmates or 500 guests — becomes this warm wave that lifts me. It’s not just about music anymore; it’s about sharing a piece of myself,” she shared.
Jasmine, who is also from Class VIII-B, said, “I’m a passionate music lover, and nothing makes me feel more connected to myself than singing, especially in my regional language, Punjabi. Music has always been close to my heart, and joining the school choir gave me the perfect opportunity to explore that passion further.”

What inspired her to be part of the choir was the desire to embrace love for music and improve her vocal skills. “I knew that being in the choir would not only help me grow as a singer but also as an individual. It has taught me the value of harmony, discipline, and teamwork. But the idea of standing in front of a large crowd made me nervous. But I discovered a little trick that helped me tremendously — I take a deep breath and imagine my mother sitting in the audience, smiling and cheering me on. That simple thought fills me with courage and warmth,” she shared.
Performing in front of the entire school or at special events is an incredible feeling for her. “Each performance brings a new level of confidence and a stronger connection with the audience. Being part of the school choir has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my school life, and I look forward to every moment I get to sing and express myself,” she said in conclusion.
