She is, at present, pursuing Commerce with Math. She has been in the school for the past 13 years and describes her journey as a memorable and enjoyable journey and truly loves being here. Meet Isha Bakshi, a student of Class XI at Apeejay School, Noida. In an impromptu interview, she shares why she chose to be part of the school band.
What instrument do you play in the school band, and why did you choose it?
I play the ceremonial stick, also known as the major stick. I chose it because it felt like an opportunity to represent myself and take on a unique role.
Many students choose other instruments. What made you choose the band?
It was something new for me, and the band performs at every important school function, like Appreciation Day, Sports Day, Annual Day, Interact Club events, and even at police line events. That encouraged me to join.
How long have you been part of the band? How has your experience changed over time?
I’ve been in the band for three years. When I joined the group in Class VIII, it was difficult at first to coordinate with everyone, especially as a leader. Over the years, it became easier because the students became my friends.
What is the most challenging part of being in the band?
The biggest challenge was handling large school events where thousands of people are present as the audience. With so many students walking behind me, coordinating everything used to be tough, but it eventually went well. There are 20 students in total: Eight pipers, 12 drummers, two bass drummers, and a band leader.
How did you overcome early challenges?
I made an effort to bond with everyone. Once we became friends, coordination became much easier. Over time, I also grew more confident in guiding the group during practices and performances.
Which event has been your favourite?
Sports Day has been my favourite because it gave me the chance to perform confidently in front of teachers, parents, and a large audience.
What skills have you gained through the band?
I’ve learnt leadership, teamwork, confidence, coordination, and orderly behaviour. These skills help me well beyond music.
