She dances as if no one is watching because for her, dance is far more than a hobby; it is a source of deep peace and joy. Meet Ira Misra of Class VIIIApeejay School, Greater Noida, a young dancer whose passion for Kathak reflects grace, dedication, and purpose. In a candid interview, she shares how this classical art form has shaped her personality and aspirations. With unwavering commitment and a love for storytelling through movement, she dreams of building a sparkling future by stepping confidently into the world of Kathak, guided by rhythm, discipline, and tradition.

Share your recent achievements in dance.

Recently, I participated in my school’s Annual Appreciation Day function, where I performed a contemporary group dance. Our team’s performance was highly appreciated for its expressions, footwork, and formations. I have also taken part in various dance competitions representing both my school and my institute, where I have won several prizes. These experiences have helped me improve my skills and gain valuable stage experience.

How did you pick interest in this art form?

My interest in dance began at a very young age. I used to watch dance performances on YouTube and try to copy the steps at home. Noticing my interest, my parents encouraged me to join a dance class, and I happily agreed. Over time, I developed a deep love for Indian classical dance, especially Kathak. After the COVID-19 pandemic, I enrolled at Prayagraj Music University to pursue my Prabhakar degree in Kathak. This dance style fascinates me because of its graceful movements, expressive storytelling, and intricate rhythmic footwork.

Who is your biggest motivation?

My biggest motivation comes from my parents and my dance teachers. They constantly encourage me to practice regularly and never give up. Watching professional dancers, especially Kathak performers, also inspires me to work harder and dream bigger.

How has dance honed your personality?

It has helped shape my personality by making me more confident and disciplined. It has taught me important values such as time management, patience, and teamwork. Performing on stage has helped me overcome stage fright and express myself more freely. Overall, dance has made me stronger mentally, emotionally, and physically.

How did your school support your journey?

My school has played a very important role in my journey by providing me with numerous opportunities to perform at various school events, competitions, and programmes. The teachers always motivated not only me but all students to explore our talents and provided proper guidance and support. The encouraging school environment has truly helped me grow as a dancer.

Would you like to take this up as a profession?

Yes, I would definitely like to pursue dance as a profession. I am currently in the fourth year of my Kathak degree and plan to continue learning and refining my skills. Dance is more than a hobby for me; it is my passion, and I aspire to build my future around it.
