She is a student of Class X with a strong interest in languages, particularly French. She enjoys exploring how language allows everyone to express ideas, emotions, and culture. Along with academics, she likes writing, editing, and engaging in creative tasks that involve careful thinking and imagination. These interests help her develop clarity of thought and a deeper appreciation for communication. Meet Navya Maheshwari of Apeejay School, Noida, who is Editor (French) of the school magazine.
In a candid interview, she shares how this role improved her language.
Why did you choose to be the Editor (French) for the school magazine?
I chose to be the Editor (French) for the school magazine because I genuinely enjoy working with the language and wanted to apply what I have learnt beyond the classroom. This role gave me the opportunity to use my knowledge in a creative and meaningful way.
How has this role improved your language?
This role has significantly improved my vocabulary, grammar, and sentence construction. Regularly reading and editing different pieces has made me more attentive to details and common errors. Over time, this process has strengthened my understanding of the language.
How do you balance creativity with correct language while editing?
While editing, my first focus is always on grammatical accuracy and clarity. Once the language is correct, I look at ways to enhance creativity without changing the writer’s original ideas or style. This helps maintain authenticity while improving the overall quality of the content.
What has been the most challenging or rewarding part of this role so far?
The most challenging aspect is correcting mistakes while preserving the originality of the writer’s voice. The most rewarding part is seeing the final edited work published and knowing that my contribution helped improve its standard.
What kind of mentoring have you received from the teachers?
I have received valuable guidance from my teachers on grammar usage, sentence structure, and suitable vocabulary. Their consistent feedback and encouragement have helped me sharpen my editing skills and gain confidence in my abilities.
