At present, she is studying in Class XI at Apeejay School, Noida. She is passionate about learning, curious to explore new cultures, and enjoys building her portfolio and practising karate. Hence, it is not surprising that when she was in Class X, she was Editor (French) for the school’s newsletter. Meet Akshita Soni, who, in an impromptu interview, shares how being the French Editor improved her language skills.
What was the most inspiring part of being the French Editor?
It was really inspiring to see how students expressed themselves in French, even though it was not their first language. It was wonderful to read their thoughts. Going through their pieces gave me a new perspective, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
How did it help you improve your language skills?

It made me realise that French was not just a subject to excel in, but a medium to express myself. It opened up a new culture for me and showed me that language can be a tool of expression.
Was there a particular article or quote that stayed with you?
Yes. A junior once shared an article about an imaginary world where only kindness existed. No matter what emotions people felt, there would always be someone to support them. That thought really touched me.
Did you come across any interesting facts about French culture that surprised you?
Yes, while practising different letters and activities, I came across many aspects of French culture. For instance, I learnt about their political system and festivals. One thing that fascinated me was the Festival of Music — I didn’t know such a celebration existed, and it really caught my interest.
How did you balance the responsibility of being an editor with your academics?
I never looked at it as just a position. It was a responsibility that required leadership, time management, and a lot of passion. Having already been part of the Prefectorial Board helped me gain the experience and ability to handle it well.
In what ways did your school and teachers support you in your editorial journey?
I’m grateful the teachers saw potential in me and gave me this opportunity. They treated all French students like a family. Our teacher constantly encouraged us and gave us communication-based activities, which created a healthy and positive learning environment.
Message for students who want to learn French.
French is not just a subject — it’s a way to express yourself, to discover a new culture, and to see the world differently.
