She is, at present, studying in Class VI at Apeejay School, Kharghar. She enjoys watching performances on TV, and that is actually how she started loving dance. It slowly became her favourite hobby; it makes her feel happy and confident whenever I do it. Meet Rujvi Hudar. In an impromptu interview, she shares the challenges that come with hip hop style, among other things.

How did your journey with dance begin?

I joined a dance class, and that is where my interest in dance really began. Before that, I mostly watched performances and enjoyed them, but after joining the class, I started learning properly. That experience made me more excited about dancing.

Hip hop is very energetic. What challenges come with it?

I practice regularly so that I can keep up with the beat and movements. I am also not afraid of making mistakes because I know that mistakes help me learn. With practice and patience, it becomes easier to coordinate the steps. It is important to keep learning despite making mistakes because it helps you become more confident and comfortable with the steps.

Is there a hip hop style that you enjoy the most?

A: I enjoy freestyle the most. It feels exciting because I can dance in my own way and try different moves. I like the freedom it gives me while performing. Freestyle lets me move freely and show my creativity. I do not have to follow fixed steps all the time. That is why it feels more fun and expressive for me.

How does dance help you express your personality or emotions?

I express myself when I perform at events. When I dance in front of people, I can show my energy and feelings through my movements. Hip hop has made me more focused and disciplined. Through dance, I have learnt that regular practice and patience are important.

Some students may feel that hip hop is difficult. What would you like to tell them?

I would tell them that it is actually quite easy to perform compared to some classical dances like Kathak or Bharatanatyam. Once you start learning and practising, it becomes very enjoyable. It is also a lot of fun because the music and movements are energetic.

How does your school support your interest in dance?

My school supports my passion by giving me opportunities to perform at events. These chances help me gain confidence and experience on stage. It also encourages me to keep improving.
