She is, at present, studying in Class V at Apeejay School, Kharghar. She loves singing classical music. Apart from singing, she also enjoys drawing and sketching. Drawing makes her feel calm and happy, just like music does. In fact, singing and drawing help her express herself in different ways. Meet Anusha Mudafale, who, in her free time, likes to practice music or make drawings.
When did you start learning classical music, and what inspired you?
I started learning classical music when I was seven years old. No one forced me to learn it. I felt inspired by myself. I really liked listening to music, and I wanted to learn it properly. Right now, I am learning at Gandharva, and I am in the second stage. I feel proud that I started learning at a young age because it has become a very important part of my life.

What do you enjoy the most about classical music?
I enjoy learning classical music every day. I love tabla and jabtaal the most. The latter is often played in taal, and it is a 10-beat rhythmic cycle in classical music. I find it very interesting. Some Bollywood songs are based on such taals. I like understanding how music is connected in different ways.
How do you manage school and music practice?
During the week, I first complete my schoolwork. After that, I do my music practice and then again finish any remaining homework. I make sure I practice regularly because classical music needs daily practice and focus.
Have you performed on stage and how does your school support you?
I have performed on stage, including in the Diwali programme. I feel excited and confident when I perform, and I never feel nervous. My music teachers support me and give me opportunities to perform in different places. Music has taught me discipline and concentration. For me, music defines everything.
