She is not only proficient in English (written and spoken); she has excellent communication skills. She is always up for critique and suggestions for areas of improvement. This, according to her, is one of her strengths along with multitasking and sound judgment. After completing her PGD in Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, and Applied Communication from Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC) where she learnt web content writing and copywriting among other things,
She worked as a senior content creator (Internship) at Metanoia Action. Before joining as executive content and copywriter at Communique India, she freelanced with ExpertLifestyler.com for almost two years. Meet Hansa Srivastava. In a candid interview, she talks about the difference between copywriting and content writing.
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m working with Communique India, focusing on copywriting for marketing suggestions. I have been here for a little less than a year. A typical day for me involves not just copywriting but also managing social media handles on Instagram and handling client servicing.
What led to the transition from being a copywriter to your current role?
It was part of my work progression. I still write copies, but as a social media manager, it involves more than just posting content – it’s about curating, planning, and managing the entire content strategy.
How do you differentiate between copywriting and content writing?

Copywriting is creative and imaginative, expressing thoughts in a concise form, typically five to six words. It may take time to come up with a snappy copy that will be appreciated. Content writing, on the other hand, involves longer forms like blogs and articles. This is typical of a particular topic that is in trend.
Which do you find more challenging and interesting?
While I may have worked as a content writer for almost two years, copywriting is where my passion lies. It demands a lot of creativity. You have to think out-of-the-box and come up with words that will grab eyeballs. Typically I will end up writing multiple posts in a day. Someday, it may be just one — it depends on what the client wants.
Was working in this sector always in the cards for you?
No, initially, I worked as a freelancer writing content and blogs. I gradually transitioned to client servicing. Dealing with clients is the most challenging aspect. You encounter all kinds of people, and you have to navigate various personalities while maintaining your own identity.
What traits do you think are essential while dealing with clients?
Being clever and polite simultaneously. You can’t fall into the trap of the client but need to assert yourself politely.
Fond memories from your time at your institute.
I am not sure whether skipping classes would be deemed naughty or a fond memory. For me and our set of friends, it came under the category of fond memories. Another memory that comes to the fore was the classes on advertising and marketing that we thoroughly enjoyed. Participating in brand case studies that honed my creativity was another fun time for us.

What traits did you learn that proved valuable in your professional journey?
All of us have traits and talents, these may just need a bit of nudge to hone them. However, I did learn creativity from the faculty and persistence from another instructor.
Do you think working in this sector is a lucrative option now that everything has opened up?
Yes, it is lucrative. While there might be stagnant periods, the industry offers both relaxation and challenging tasks. You have to be prepared to work long hours a requirement in this sector. And while communicating in English is preferred, if your ideas are clear and well-communicated in Hindi, it’s acceptable. It is also important to understand that the way you pitch an idea matters more.
How did you hear of AIMC and would you recommend your institute to others?
I came to know about this institute through online research. Yes, definitely. I’d recommend it for the faculty and overall experience.
