Aryan Sharma, an alumnus of the School of Management Sciences (SOMS) at Apeejay Stya University (ASU), Gurugram, completed his B Com (Hons) with ACCA certification and has since embarked on a promising professional journey in the field of Chartered Accountancy. Known for his dedication and focus, Aryan has transitioned seamlessly from academic excellence to real-world auditing, gaining firsthand experience in the intricate workings of financial systems. Read edited excerpts of his interview in which he shares about his first audit season experience.

Can you tell us about your professional journey after SOMS?

After completing my B Com (Hons) ACCA at SOMS, I decided to take a step further into the field of Chartered Accountancy. I started exploring job portals, built a focused resume, and applied to firms where I could learn and grow. It was important for me to find an environment that would challenge my knowledge and enhance my practical skills.

How was your first audit season experience?
Experiencing my first audit season has been nothing short of transformative. Working in the internal audit team, I witnessed the entire journey of financial records—from the source documents to the finalization of accounts. What struck me most was how even a single misposted entry can disrupt the entire financial chain. This experience taught me that in auditing, accuracy is not optional—it is the foundation of trust, reliability, and accountability.

What lessons about teamwork and discipline did you take away?
Audit season truly reveals the essence of teamwork and discipline. Long hours, tight deadlines, and complex reconciliations can feel overwhelming initially, but they cultivate patience, resilience, and a problem-solving mindset. I realised that auditing is not just about numbers—it is about ensuring that every number reflects truth and transparency.

What advice would you give to current students preparing for such roles?
I strongly recommend students pay special attention to subjects like Financial Accounting and Audit. These courses not only build technical expertise but also sharpen critical thinking and ethical judgment.

Any final thoughts for professionals or aspiring auditors?
Audit season is demanding, but it is also deeply rewarding. For professionals, it serves as a reminder that learning never stops. Adaptability, precision, and a commitment to ethical standards are the cornerstones of growth. Ultimately, it shapes you into a professional who understands that behind every figure lies a responsibility to safeguard trust.

Aryan’s journey exemplifies the bridge between academic learning and professional excellence, highlighting how dedication, discipline, and attention to detail can transform a fresh graduate into a competent and conscientious auditor.
