Not every professional journey begins exactly as planned—but sometimes, the detour leads to unexpected success. Anish Tiwari, a Cluster Product Manager at Wings Pharmaceuticals, had once aspired to join the Indian Army. When fate redirected him, he found strength in his sister’s advice and pursued a PGDM in Marketing and Operations from Apeejay School of Management (ASM), Dwarka.

Today, the Apeejay alumnus is managing a major market cluster for a reputed pharma firm. In this insightful conversation, he opens up about his work, inspiration, and what drives him forward. Read edited excerpts:

Tell us about your role as a Cluster Product Manager

I handle the entire West Delhi region for Wings Pharmaceuticals. My job involves managing the complete distribution channel—from the clearing and forwarding agent (CFA) to distributors and finally to retailers. I ensure smooth supply, sales targets, and good relationships with all stakeholders. In essence, I bridge the gap between the product and the end customer.

What inspired you to work in this line of sales and distribution?

Initially, I never thought I’d end up here. My first dream was to join the Indian Army. But when that didn’t work out, my sister—who’s also an ASM alumna—encouraged me to consider an MBA. She believed I had the skills for management. Once I entered the field, I found I really enjoyed the structure and logic of sales and distribution.

What’s your next professional milestone?

My next goal is to get promoted to Area Product Manager. That role would put me in charge of all of Delhi. I’ve been working consistently toward this, building market understanding and team coordination skills. I believe I’m close to achieving it.

How did your internship help shape your career path?

I interned at ITC Ltd., where I worked on the Bingo product line. My work involved visiting retailers, doing market research, and understanding FMCG distribution. That was my first practical exposure to retail dynamics—and coincidentally, it closely mirrors what I do now at Wings Pharmaceuticals. The internship gave me clarity that this is where I perform best.

What did you learn at ASM that helps you in your current role?

ASM gave me strong real-world exposure—especially through live projects and a fantastic mentorship system. My mentor, Dr. Varnika Agarwal, conducted mock jury sessions and interview prep. It trained me to handle pressure and decision-making, which I now do every day. The confidence ASM instilled in me is my biggest asset.

What’s your advice to current ASM students who want to enter distribution?

Distribution and sales are demanding but deeply rewarding fields. If you have confidence, patience, and are willing to put in hard work, you’ll thrive. It’s not about theory alone—it’s about execution. Build people skills, stay curious, and don’t shy away from the ground reality.
