Living a good philosophical life practicing empathy, kindness, and gratitude while staying true to one’s principles. Meet Amiya Akshun, of Class XI at Apeejay School, Greater Noida, who is living up to such values in its full glory. In a candid interview with us, Amiya teaches us how to find joy in small things.

How did you feel after receiving the prestigious award?

Receiving the award was a very humbling moment for me. I felt proud. This recognition was not just for me alone; it reflected everything my mother has taught me since childhood. She has always been my guiding light, shaping the way I look at life and people. Along with my teachers and friends, her influence has been the biggest reason behind this achievement.

What are the core values you believe are relevant?

I think empathy, responsibility, kindness, and respect are the core values that are relevant in today’s time. With so much happening around us, like the constant change and the ever-growing competition, we tend to forget the human side of things, which is why these values are necessary in an individual, because I think these values keep one grounded and humble.

How well do you resonate with the motto-soaring high is my nature?

To me, “soaring high” means striving to be the best version of myself, not only in academics or achievements but also in my character. It’s about dreaming big, working hard, and lifting others up as I move forward, while continuing to push through difficult times. I refuse to stop, even when I’m feeling down.

What is your philosophy for leading a good life?

I believe the philosophy of leading a good life lies in staying true to our morals, practising gratitude, and extending help whenever possible. It’s about cherishing small joys in everyday successes. Most importantly, I feel the greatest skill one can develop is the ability to remain in a good mood even when there seems little reason to be.

What is your driving force after receiving this award?

The award motivates me to keep living up to the values it stands for. Remember that people notice not only what you achieve but also how you treat others. That pushes me to keep improving myself and to set an example for others around me.

What are the basic human values people lack? How to work on them?

I think people lack empathy and gratitude in today’s world. People get caught up in competition and forget to pause and understand others or acknowledge the acts of kindness done towards them by others. The way to work on them is simple: It’s just that people should listen more, judge less, and practise small acts of kindness every day.
