‘Architecture involves lot of creativity and management skills’

Vishal Gupta works as the Principal Architect at Arav Design Studio, Kanpur. He pursued Bachelors of Architecture from Apeejay Institute of Technology – School of Architecture and Planning (AIT-SAP).

In an informal conversation, the architect tells us how AIT-SAP shaped him into the professional he is today and also offers some words of advice for the current batch of students. Read edited excerpts:

What does a regular day at work look like?

It is a very hectic and challenging day to be honest. I set daily targets for my projects and try to level up creativity with every new project. That is the wonder of my field.

How lovely! Byt throwback to Apeejay student years now?

All the days were memorable. But if I have to choose one memory that is the closest to my heart then it would be my thesis submission time. I topped my thesis semester.

Wow! So the teachers must have guided you well?

Indeed! The teachers helped all the students a lot in guiding us about architectural details and other nitty-gritty I did well solely due to their support and teaching.

Lastly, one advice to current students?

I feel students now are becoming more tech-savvy. Design skills come from the surrounding nature. It’s required that the students should develop their own sketching skills and enhance their design talent by introducing new concepts.
