Apeejay Stya University (ASU) celebrated India’s 78th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and a deep sense of patriotic fervor. The event was a grand display of unity and pride, bringing together students, faculty, and staff to honour the nation’s remarkable journey since gaining independence.
The celebrations began with an insightful introduction by Kajal Shukla, a student of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC). She eloquently highlighted the significance of Independence Day, reminding everyone of the sacrifices made by countless freedom fighters who paved the way for the nation’s freedom. Her speech set a reflective tone for the day, underscoring the importance of remembering our history while looking forward to the future.

Further, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of ASU, Prof. Vijay Vir Singh, hoisted the national flag. The tricolour fluttered majestically against the backdrop of a clear sky, as the assembled crowd sang the National Anthem with a profound sense of pride and unity. The ceremony evoked a powerful emotional response, reinforcing the shared values and aspirations that bind the nation together.
Following the flag-hoisting, Prof. Vijay Vir Singh delivered a thought-provoking address. His speech delved into the nation’s progress since 1947, emphasising the critical role that education plays in shaping the future of India. He encouraged the students to take inspiration from the country’s journey and to contribute actively to its continued development. Prof. Singh’s words resonated deeply with the audience, inspiring a renewed sense of responsibility and dedication towards nation-building.

The celebration then transitioned into a vibrant cultural program, which showcased the diverse talents of ASU’s students. The performances, brimming with patriotic zeal, included an array of songs, dances, and poetry recitations that paid homage to India’s rich cultural heritage. Each performance was a testament to the students’ creativity and their deep love for their country, adding a lively and festive atmosphere to the event.

The day concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Registrar, Prof. Chetan Choudhary. He expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed to making the event a success, and his appreciation for the collective effort that went into organising such a meaningful celebration. The distribution of sweets and refreshments followed, bringing a sweet end to the day’s events.
