Apeejay Stya University celebrates 3rd Convocation with grandeur and prestige

Convocation ceremony stands as a pinnacle moment in the academic journey of every student in the University. It’s a celebration of years of hard work, dedication, and achievement.

Apeejay Stya University (ASU) Gurugram, India’s first industry-centric technology & liberal arts university focused on research & innovation, recently organised its 3rd Convocation with great elan and grandeur. During the occasion, a total of 1118 students were conferred with degrees in their respective disciplines. 

This year, the university was honoured to host a line of visionary leaders. Shri Bandaru Dattatraya , Honourable Governor of Haryana, presided over as the Chief Guest while the Guests of Honour for the event were Prof. (Dr.) Arvind Panagariya and Prof. D. P.Singh, Chancellor, TISS & Former Chairman UGC. Among the other eminent dignitaries present were Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia, Chairman, Apeejay Stya & Svran Group, Chancellor Apeejay Stya University and Chairman, Apeejay Education, Dr Neha Berlia, Core Board Member of Apeejay Stya & Svran Group and Pro-Chancellor of Apeejay Stya University, Prof. Vijay Vir Singh, Vice Chancellor of Apeejay Stya University,  education officers, heads and deans of schools of institutes members of the Apeejay family.

The celebration of the 3rd Convocation ceremony commenced on an auspicious note with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp followed by Saraswati Vandana, invoking blessings of the Almighty for the journey ahead. Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia subsequently paid  a floral tribute to the late Founder-Chairman Dr Stya Paul. Post which, a very inspiring short film in the memory of Dr Stya Paul ji was featured. 

Addressing the enthusiastic audience of students and parents, the Chief Guest Shri Bandaru Dattatraya shared words of wisdom with the graduating students. He mentioned, “As we gather here to celebrate this momentous occasion, I am reminded of the profound impact of education and the journey of those who have dedicated themselves to its pursuit.The significance of education in shaping our lives and society has been transformative.“

Sharing about his life-journey with the graduating students, Shri Dattatraya said, “As we reflect on the achievements of our graduates, let us also recognise the invaluable contributions of their mentors, teachers, and loved ones. Their unwavering support has been instrumental in guiding our graduates on their path to success. Today, as you receive your degrees and embark on the next chapter of your lives, remember the lessons learned and the values instilled during your time at the University. Embrace innovation, pursue excellence, and never lose sight of your dreams.”

Declaring the Convocation ceremony open, Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia expressed, “I would like to take this privilege to address you today, drawing inspiration from the words of Swami Vivekananda. We are privileged to have a distinguished galaxy of guests and dignitaries gracing the dais today. Their presence adds immense value to this auspicious occasion, as they share their wisdom and insights with us. In particular, I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to our esteemed speakers, whose remarkable achievements and contributions to society serve as a beacon of inspiration to us all.”

Mrs Berlia further shared, “As we gather here today, it is impossible not to reflect on the journey of our Founder Chairman, whose vision and values continue to guide us. Dr. Stya Paul’s indomitable spirit and unwavering dedication to education have left an indelible mark on our institution and the lives of countless individuals. Dr. Stya Paul’s journey from humble beginnings to pioneering entrepreneurship and educational leadership serves as a testament to the power of determination and perseverance. His commitment to excellence and integrity inspires us to strive for greatness in all our endeavours.”

Congratulating the success of graduating students, Mrs Berlia said, “Today, we are  celebrating the achievements of our graduates and I urge each one of you to reflect on the values that have guided you this far. In a world of constant change and uncertainty, it is our core human values that sustain us and lead us to true happiness and fulfillment.”

Mrs Berlia also emphasised on how artificial intelligence is transforming many aspects of lives while mentioning that AI can go side by side with humanity but cannot replace it.  

Concluding her speech, Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia said, “I leave you with a simple yet profound lesson from nature: Learn from the eagle, which rises above the challenges it faces, focusing on its journey towards greatness. As you navigate through life’s challenges, may you always rise higher, soar higher, and achieve the extraordinary.”

Guest of Honour Prof. (Dr.) Arvind Panagariya, who was also conferred with the doctoral degree on the occasion, expressed his deep gratitude to the university, its Chancellor Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia, Pro-Chancellor  Dr Neha Berlia and Vice Chancellor Dr. Vijay Vir Singh along with the dedicated faculty for their invaluable contributions to education. “The significance of this moment, where scholars are recognised and honoured with degrees, cannot be overstated.”

Reflecting on the evolution of higher education in India, he said, “I recall advocating for educational reforms and the entry of private universities. Over the past 25 years, we have witnessed a remarkable growth in the number of private institutions, contributing to the nation’s progress.”

He further emphasised,  “As we look to the future, I am filled with hope and optimism for the young minds graduating today. India’s rapid growth and its vibrant youth population present endless opportunities for innovation and progress. With perseverance and dedication, you have the power to shape a brighter tomorrow. Life’s journey is filled with challenges, but it is also a journey of resilience and perseverance. Success is not merely defined by achievements but by the purity of our means and the impact we have on others.”

Subsequently, Prof. D. P.Singh congratulated all the students for their hard work that has led them to earn their degrees. “This is a landmark day, marking the beginning of your professional journey. So, let hard work and focus be your companions as you step into the world. You are the future leaders of our nation, and with your abilities and potential, you can make a significant impact on society.”

The Vice Chancellor Dr Vijay Vir Singh extended his gratitude to the parents for choosing the University for their child and sharing their responsibilities with the University. “Today, 1118 students earned their degrees on the basis of their hard work. You are going to start a new journey; there will be challenges on the road but the skills you have learnt will help you fight them all.”    

The esteemed guests presented medals for academic excellence to the top rank holders from various schools. On this momentous occasion, 64 gold medals were presented , in which, 40 were given to girls and 24 to boys.

The event ended on a successful note with the vote of thanks and singing of the National Anthem.
