The Department of Hindi at Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, celebrated Hindi Diwas with immense fervour and enthusiasm, transforming the campus into a hub of cultural pride and literary expression. The week-long celebration witnessed active participation from students across various classes in a series of competitions, including Essay Writing, Poetry Composition, Poetry Recitation, Debate, Story Narration, and Portrait Making.

The initiative, spearheaded by Dr. Anjana, Head of the Department of Hindi, aimed to nurture a deeper connection among students with the Hindi language and Indian culture. Highlighting the legacy of Hindi, Dr. Anjana remarked that India’s diverse heritage  gifted us  numerous literary treasures in Hindi that continue to inspire and guide generations.

The celebrations began with a soulful musical invocation as students of the Department of Music, under the guidance of Dr. Amita Mishra, presented Bhajans by Meera Bai, creating a serene and reflective ambience. The cultural programme included insightful and creative performances such as Mehak’s views on the significance of Hindi, Diya Talwar’s award-winning story “Vasiyat”, and heartfelt poetry recitations by Diya and Ms. Chetna Sharma of the Department of English, who shared her self-composed poem to much admiration.

Dr. Neerja Dhingra, Principal of the College, addressed the gathering with words of encouragement and pride. She noted, “At Apeejay, we create platforms that foster holistic development while connecting students with Indian art, culture, and languages. In today’s globalised world, while foreign languages are gaining attention, it is equally important to cherish and preserve our own linguistic heritage. Hindi is not just a language but a vital link to our roots and cultural identity.”

The competitions across the week showcased outstanding student talent. Among the winners, Diya Talwar emerged as a standout performer, securing top positions across multiple categories, while Poorva Aneja bagged first in Poetry Recitation. Shivam Sharma excelled in Debate, and Nandini secured first in Essay Writing. In Portrait Making, Naveen claimed first, followed by Jaskeerat Kaur in second, with Mahi and Shruti sharing third place. The enthusiasm and creativity of the participants reflected their passion for Hindi and Indian culture.

All winners were felicitated with certificates and gifts, adding to the celebratory spirit of the occasion. The programme was gracefully anchored by Ms. Chetna Sharma, who ensured its smooth conduct.

Applauding the initiative, Dr. Dhingra commended Dr. Anjana and her team for organising a vibrant and meaningful celebration that not only honored the beauty of Hindi but also inspired students to preserve and promote India’s rich cultural heritage.
